Wildlife at it's best
The Okavango Delta is the largest inland delta in the world and covers between 6 and 15,000 square kilometers of the Kalahari Desert in northern Botswana, and owes its existence to the Okavango River (Kavango) that flows from the Angolan highlands across the Strip. from Caprivi, Namibia, to the Kalahari Desert
This huge region has an incredible diversity of wildlife especially birds, elephants, buffaloes, lions & giraffes.
Predominantly flat the delta is scattered with thousands of small islands created mainly by termites, however larger islands do exist with the largest island being Chief’s island having been formed into a tectonic fault line.
On June 22, 2014, the Okavango Delta became the 1000th place to be officially inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The delta is incredibly important for wildlife and a true oasis surrounded by dry desert lands.
