Kruger Safari

Undoubtedly the most famous National Park in South Africa, with an area of about 19 485 km², the Kruger is a little bigger than Wales! Every year, about 2 million visitors enter the park in search of the thrill of seeing some of Africa's most famous wildlife up close! Large herds of elephants and antelopes graze on the plains, which in turn attracts large numbers of predators such as Lions, Leopards & Hyenas. The birdlife in this park is also incredible and about 490 species of birds have been recorded Kruger and the private reserves around it have a very good accommodation structure, from the luxurious lodges of Sabi Sands & Timbavati to simple accommodation within Kruger itself, there are lodges for all tastes and budgets.

Is it safe to go on safari?

Yes, taking a safari is safe and an experience not to be missed.

Do you have a problem with mosquitoes?

Kruger is one of two South African national parks located in areas at risk for malaria. The other park is Mapungubwe National Park. It is important to note that the risk of malaria in both parks is generally low, even in the summer months.

Do I need travel insurance?

As part of your safari’s Terms and Conditions with Unique- Safaris, it is essential that you purchase comprehensive travel insurance when making the final payment for your safari.
Your insurance must include full medical coverage, including costs of emergency repatriation, cancellation and travel delay.

Anyone traveling with Unique-Safaris must have valid travel insurance for their travel time.

What currency is used in South Africa?

South Africa’s currency is the rand and is the only currency used in the country. Note that in South Africa payments in dollars are not accepted.

What type of current does South Africa have?

South African electrical appliances operate on 220 / 240v with 3-pin round sockets, receiving 15 amps sockets. Although adapters are available in most camps, we recommend that you purchase your own.

See here the Xpo plug used in South Africa www.power-plugs-sockets.com/za/south-africa/

When is the best time to visit Kruger?

The best time to visit Kruger NaXonal Park is at the beginning or end of the region’s dry season, which occurs between April and September. During the Kruger dry season, temperatures are mostly pleasant (with nighttime temperatures reaching 5 C and daytime temperatures reaching 28 C).

In addition, vegetation is sparse and water levels are low due to lack of rain, which means that visitors will have a better chance of spotting animals. And in the rainy season (from October to March), abundant rainfall and foliage can make it difficult to observe animals.

How does tipping work in South Africa?

These are our recommendations but tipping is personal and not mandatory. Safari Guide / Game Ranger in Camps & Game Lodges: 10 US $ per person per day.
General Staff in accommodations & Game Lodges: $ 5 per person per day. Concierge: $ 1 per person per movement.

Restaurants / Hotels: 10% is usual.

"My husband and I bought a package that included safaris in the Kruger National Park and Pilansberg National Park with Unique-safaris. These were unforgettable days where, in addition to the safaris, we were graced by Alex, an incredible guide who touched us with his joy, enthusiasm and sympathy. Their knowledge of African fauna, flora and culture is excellent, I highly recommend Unique-safari, a serious company, which makes me very happy to recommend it to everyone who is interested in knowing everything about South Africa as well as other African countries.
